When we’re in the city, during what we’d now call “normal” circumstances, we eat out almost every night. After a long day at the office, making dinner was just not a priority, especially with numerous good restaurants near our apartment. But since March we’ve been living upstate and, as you may have read in our previous posts, our garden is thriving and Andrew has been cooking almost every day. As a result we’ve become much more aware of what we eat and how it’s prepared; when the reality of how much salt, sugar and fat we were ingesting became clear – even though we both work out regularly and are in good health – it was pretty astounding.

It’s no secret that our co-founder Andrew loves to cook. The kitchen provides him a creative outlet of experimentation and expression. The fact that the final product is enjoyed by others only adds to his satisfaction. Earlier this year he shared his roast chicken recipe because of his belief in enjoying the little things, even while hunkered down at home with no place to go.

Back in the early days of our brand, our founders Matthew and Andrew were known for the dinner parties they would host in our original Chelsea shop, located just below the apartment they shared at the time. Andrew would whip up a simple, but seasonal menu for a small group of guests to enjoy alongside the excellent wine and conversation on offer.

Founded by fashion retail experts Carl Cunow and Nathan Romano, Onia marries style and functionality to create high-quality and timeless swimwear pieces for both men and women. We sat down with the two entrepreneurs to discuss our shared inspirations, their daily regimens and how they built their distinct brand in an ever-evolving retail landscape.
